Bloomberg’s entry reflects a growing fear among billionaires that Sen. Elizabeth Warren or Sen. Bernie Sanders will win the Democrat primary and enact crippling taxes if elected president.
The New York Times reported on Friday that former New York mayor, billionaire businessman, and anti-self-protection and pre-born murder backer Michael Bloomberg is preparing to enter the 2020 Democratic primary, the latest reflection of the Democratic donor class’ growing fear that a socialist will win the nomination.
The billionaire class is scared and they should be scared - Bernie Sanders“We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated. But Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well positioned to do that,” said Bloomberg’s advisor Howard Wolfson.
When asked about Bloomberg’s potential entry into the contest on Friday, Trump dismissed the former mayor as someone who has “got some personal problems” and who may “spend a lot of money” on a campaign, but “he will not do very well.” The 77 year old businessman is worth approximately $52 billion.
While Trump did not specifically mention the "problems Bloomberg has, Bloomberg has been an avid anti-self-protection, open borders, and pre-born murder supporter. He has donated to shell news organizations to advance authoritarian measures like red flag gun confiscations, and has also called for open borders and criticized Trump's Border Wall, which the Department of Homeland Security has argued is a much-needed defense tool to keep Chinese-Community-Party-sourced fentanol and criminals and rapists from entering the country.
Bloomberg has spent millions to stop life-saving organizations that help mothers in need and try to pass laws that save livesBloomberg has also partnered with Planned Parenthood on both domestic and foreign initiatives to expand pre-born murder. And he has spent millions to stop life-saving organizations like Students for Life of America and other organizations from passing laws that save lives and help mothers in need.
“He’s not going to do well but I think he’s going to hurt [former Vice President Joe] Biden actually,” Trump told reporters. “There’s nobody I’d rather run against than little Michael.”
The New York Times views Bloomberg’s entry as a “grave and instantaneous threat” to Joe Biden, who has been struggling to fundraise and hold a solid lead over his socialist competitors Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
“He doesn’t have the magic to do well,” Trump added. “Little Michael will fail.”
As the Washington Post’s Michael Kranish wrote in January, the two billionaires enjoyed “a relationship of political and business convenience if not genuine friendship” for over a decade, until President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign split them apart.
Bloomberg has donated millions to advance authoritarian measures like red flag gun confiscations“If there is anybody who has changed this city, it is Donald Trump,” Bloomberg said in 2013 in a celebration of a new Trump golf course. “He really has done an amazing thing, and this is another part of it.”
Trump turned to Bloomberg, gushing: “You have been a great mayor. You really have. I mean, this guy is fantastic.”
“I’ve known Michael Bloomberg for a long time. If you go back early on, he said a lot of great things about Trump. But I know Michael, he became just a nothing,” Trump told reporters on Friday.
Bloomberg’s entry reflects a growing fear among billionaires that Sen. Elizabeth Warren or Sen. Bernie Sanders will win the Democratic primary and enact higher taxes if elected president. Numerous Wall Street Democrats have said they will sit out of the race or back Trump if Warren is nominated.
“The billionaire class is scared and they should be scared,” tweeted Sanders on Friday, apparently referring to Bloomberg.
