Jesus is the Answer

Many scholars and intuitive-types have attempted to analyze the reasons for cultural paradigms radically shifting in short timeperiods. I, for one, refer to the Bible. It has been correct thus far, why would it suddenly cease to be correct now? I conjecture that the fundamental problem with humanity in general is its propensity to be selfish and sinful. In addition to the observations I have presented, which only scratch the surface of human nature, countless statistics of the atrocities committed can certainly nail the coffin. Reading these examples of the horrible nature humans have inherited is enough to make one shout at the top of their lungs. However, there is a cure.

In the 1950s, I remember my father telling me America was different. Americans had a good sense of morality and helped the poor through charitable giving. It definitely sounded like a different time, perhaps a better time. Or was it? Certainly racism and sexism ran rampant, and those are completely inexcusable. However, I would hypothesize that humanity is considerably worse today. At least in the 1950s people recognized that there was a God (p.s. there is), and, as such, believed that we must live for Him, and the way He would want us to live. At least in the 1950s people understood that right and wrong and good and bad are extant. It almost feels that, today, anything goes.

Yes, morality is important. Many thriving societies (Rome, Greece, and Babylon are a few examples from history) saw a sharp decline in economic prosperity and social wellbeing when the people began to forget about right and wrong. Even Aristotle, the most atheistic of the ancient philosophers, recognized the importance of virtue and assuming the role of a virtuous citizen. I think that if we decide to ignore right and wrong, if we live by the code of "anything goes" then I argue that history serves as an excellent determiner of where we will end up.

However, in the midst of these problems, there is a solution. A renouned atheist, in his visit to Africa, remarked on how, of all the aid programs present in Africa, the only program successful in reforming whole populations was Chrisian Mission work. He retells his observations among African communities that accepted the Gospel from Christians and how the lives of these people were truly changed. "In Africa Christianity changes people’s hearts. It brings a spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good" (Parris, 2012)

So, the answer to today's problems is the answer to yesterday's problems: We need Jesus. We need spiritual renewal. I have met former drug abusers, homosexuals, bisexuals, and adulterers; and I know people who have met former repeat offenders in prisons who accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The common denominator between all these people is that they became changed and transformed after truly becoming saved. We may not be living morally anymore, but we could be living for God and let Him change us and instill in us the proper moral fiber.
