No matter which side of the political isle you may fall, an integral part of our continuing republic is the ability for the people to keep their government in check. The obvious criminality and blatant negligence by Hillary Clinton and the alleged sexual assault cases on Donald Trump is enough to make anyone's head spin. Truly, this is an election cycle for the books. However, when you step up to the poll today, please remember that what is most important is the benefit of the country, not making a personal statement.
It was the vision of the Founding Fathers to found a government "by the people and for the people." However, this government ceases to exist when the people fail to keep their government in check; apathy is the pitfall to a republic.
This is clearly seen in the tumult of our political system today. The Clinton emails have shown that the government, for all intents and purposes, is for sale. The "quid pro quo" negotiation witnessed in the Clinton emails should make anyone fear for the loss of their liberty. However, the problem is not just Clinton: the whole government is corrupt.
The gobsmackingly deep corruption that has been going on for decades should tell us that the problem is not Clinton and her Foundation alone. The problem is the government. Foreign nations have been tampering with U.S. elections for decades (both democrat and republican), and they are tampering this election as well. Simply keeping Clinton out of office will not be enough for the people to reclaim the country. We need to, as Trump puts it "drain the swamp."
Now, I do not want my readers to think that I wrote this article just to vent the horrors of Clinton's record. As witnessed in history, and currently, there has been plenty of corruption in our government in general. I am merely calling upon my readers to ponder what kind of government they want to have. Do they want to have the same old government rife with corruption? Or do they truly want a government that serves them and promotes what they want instead of what corporations prefer?
At the end of the day, we the people are responsible for ensuring we keep our freedoms. We the people must speak up and vote this election for what is best for us, be it our local congressmen, statesmen, or whom we want as president. We must speak for ourselves since it is clear that our government does not speak for us.
