President Biden is in Mexico City where he is meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is commonly referred to in Mexico as AMLO. This is what AMLO should say to Biden:
“It is nice to see you, President Biden. Thank you for coming to our country.
“However, when you depart, please take all of your DEA agents with you. Your war on drugs has killed or disappeared more than a hundred thousand Mexican citizens. It has also destroyed what was once one of the loveliest countries in the world. We are finished with it.
“As soon as you depart, I am submitting a bill to the Mexican congress to legalize all drugs. Not just marijuana but also fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. We should never have followed the United States down the destructive path of illegality. We should have learned from your era of Prohibition that illegality would lead to the rise of deadly and destructive drug cartels, just as the illegality of alcohol led to the rise of deadly and destructive alcohol cartels. Surely, Mr. Biden, you remember the name Al Capone.
“A few days ago, almost 3,600 Mexican troops attacked members of the Sinoloa Cartel, with the aim of capturing “El Chapito,” the son of “El Chapo,” the drug lord who, as you know, is currently serving time in a U.S. penitentiary. The operation ended up killing ten Mexican soldiers. I was wrong to authorize that operation. Those deaths were just not worth trying to please you before your visit.
“After all, what did the arrest of “El Chapito” accomplish? Oh sure, there is now one more drug lord in custody. So what? Both the United States have been busting drug lords for decades. What has that accomplished? Nothing! As soon as one drug lord is busted, another one takes his place.
“Did the arrest and extradition of El Chapo bring an end to the Sinoloa Cartel? If it had, we wouldn’t have needed to arrest his son and sacrifice those ten soldiers in the process. And the arrest of his son will have no effect on the continuation of drug operations by the Sinaloa Cartel, especially since El Chapito has two brothers who are actively involved in the cartel.
“Several months ago, in another effort to please you, I had the military arrest Rafael Caro Quintero, the man who was allegedly responsible for the torture and death in 1975 of DEA agent Kiki Camarena.
“That was 1975, Mr. Biden. That was more than 30 years ago! Yes, that is how long your drug war has been waged in both of our countries. Camarena died for nothing. Even if we extradite Caro Quintero to the United States, nothing will change. The illegal drug trade will go on.
“I would highly recommend that you watch the Netflix series Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. You will begin to understand why knocking out one drug lord or one drug cartel accomplishes nothing, because the ones who are knocked out are quickly replaced by other drug lords and drug cartels.
“There is a simple reason why the drug war goes on, Mr. Biden. Money. Big money. Mexican officials and U.S. officials are making big money from the drug-war trade. Bribes, payoffs, and generous salaries for judges, prosecutors, and law-enforcement personnel. I should also mention your asset-forfeiture laws, which enable your drug-war officials to steal money from innocent people, especially blacks, who are traveling your highways with cash.
“Enough is enough. The only way to put the drug lords and drug cartels out of business is through drug legalization. That is because they are unable to compete in legal markets against pharmacies and legitimate drug suppliers. We learned this when the United States ended the prohibition of alcohol. As soon as that happened, the alcohol lords and alcohol cartels disappeared, just like the drug lords and drug cartels will disappear when we legalize drugs.
“Moreover, the reason that drugs are flooding into your country is because Americans wish to consume them. Why isn’t it their right to consume whatever they want? Why should you be the daddy of American adults, Mr. Biden?
“There is something else you should consider. Americans are not dying of “drug overdoses,” as your mainstream press reports. They are instead dying from corrupted drugs, which come with illegality. That wouldn’t be happening if drugs were legal because pharmacies and other reputable drug suppliers wouldn’t let it happen.
“There is another point that I wish you would consider. In the United States, it is illegal for the military to enforce your drug laws. The American people obviously believe that that would be a bad thing. Such being the case, Mr. Biden, pray tell: Why have your people encouraged our military to enforce the drug war here in Mexico? Isn’t that just one more example of U.S. hypocrisy?
“Have a nice trip home, President Biden, along with your DEA agents who will be returning with you. We are done with your evil, deadly, and destructive drug war. Thank you again for coming to visit us.”
