A new "criminal justice reform" law on the books in New York will reportedly free murderers, child sexual assaulters, and those who have made terrorism threats without even having to post bail. Such "justice" reform, according to Blue Lives Matter, will include:
- Second-degree manslaughter
- Aggravated vehicular assault
- Third-degree assault
- Promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child
- Possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child
- Promoting a sexual performance by a child
- Failure to register as a sex offender
- Making terroristic threats
- Criminally negligent homicide
- Aggravated vehicular homicide
Of course, the law was buried in the 2020 Budget, since, you know, such outrageously dangerous and reckless laws would never pass without some sort of blackmail or sense of immediacy for important federal programs. The method of passing is outrageous in and of itself. Putting the entire state budget on hold because you want to free criminals. Withholding funding for the police who arrest these criminals, withholding funding for the firefighters who fight the city's fires, etc. No. Instead of helping keep the streets safe, they need to be flooded with criminals who commit heinous crimes and get off scot-free.
Estimates from the Center For Court Innovation say roughly 20,500 people in 2018 would have been immediately eligible for release for their crimes under ths law. That's 20,500 people who have harmed or destroyed property that would not have paid for their actions. Tell that to the victims and their families. Tell that to the children who were sexually assaulted. This is the most disgusting and dispicable law ever to come from New York.
The city that went from "stop and frisk" to shut down crime has now come full circle and decided there isn't enough crime.
But New York is simply following in the footsteps of their San Francisco "mecca," as San Francisco recently made felons' names more appealing. Instead of being labeled a juvenile offender, now that person is "affected by the judicial system." And, of course, the words "felon" and "offender" are replaced with phrases like "returning resident" (as if he just had a nice little stay in a resort with a pool and a full-service bar and is now coming back home from vacation).
Perhaps most shocking nugget in the San Francisco resolution is the fact that "[a]pproximately one in every five California residents has a criminal record." Gee... I wonder why they're suddenly renaming people... It can't POSSIBLY be a ploy to get 20% of the vote or anything... No. That CAN'T be it.
The Left is going insane. Whoever elected these jokers seriously needs to rethink their decision in the next elections. If criminals are being released into the streets without doing the time, and these are the same areas where you aren't even guaranteed the right to own a gun, then maybe your current leadership needs to be reshuffled. People can commit a crime, sexually assault your child, and you can't even buy a weapon to defend yourself or your family. What use are cops if they can't hold anyone? What use is the state if it doesn't institute justice? This is the ultimate conclusion of liberal policies. They lead to lunacy, dystopia, and criminalism.
