The Truth Should Still Matter

Hitler's top propagandist, perhaps one of the greatest spin masters in all of history, spilled the beans concerning how narratives work: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

Though Joseph Goebbels certainly shielded the German public from the countless terrible realities of the holocaust, this one quote is certainly a gift to humanity. Though this indecent, deceitful man helped Hitler hide horrible, appalling, wicked acts, this quote should serve as a warning to citizens everywhere, especially in the United States. "The truth is the greatest enemy of the State." Those words should sound as a warning siren to everyone who loves truth. A society founded on lies cannot sustain itself for long, but Goebbels essentially devised a manipulative model for sustaining a society brimming with lies from falling to the same lies that would easily destroy it: hide the truth.

However, how did that work out for Nazi Germany? Eventually, the truth comes to light, and whatever is hidden will be exposed. Nazi Germany faced trials for their war crimes and to this day the horrors of the holocaust are continually taught as a testament to the evil of mankind. No, the web of lies and misdirection was not powerful enough to suppress the truth, and America should learn this lesson before our country falls completely into disarray.

Currently, our President and his staff are being investigated by a special council for crimes with absolutely zero evidence. Meanwhile, judges illegally declare that executive orders are unconstitutional when they expressly follow the President's legal right to ban entry to the United States from certain countries. In addition, millions of dollars are funneled into the government through lobbyists and special interest groups; the most recent example of which is the 20 million dollars recently ending up in John NcCain's Reform Institute from George Soros, the left's financial storehouse. It seems as if the entire government is corrupt to the core, and nobody knows about it, since the press decides to avoid discussing such matters and would rather discuss Donald Trump's orange-ness, or the illegitimacy of a legitimately elected President. To quote the late Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, "There are lies, damnable lies, and statistics." Funnily enough, all three are consistently used in our government to prove causes and destroy opponents.

No, a society cannot function on lies, no matter how often they are repeated. Therefore, it seems sensible that the Bible would expressly denounce lying. In fact, the Bible charges Christians to practice the polar opposite, "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ." Really makes one ponder, doesn't it?

This country needs to resuscitate before it is too late. It cannot endure with "a house divided against itself," as our late president Abraham Lincoln warned before the beginning of the Civil War. We need to ally ourselves wth our neighbors and demand better from our government. We need to remind them that we want a truthful society instead of a dangerous web of lies. We need to demand better from our elected officials, or, better yet, we need to elect officials that represent the values that we hold dear. Truth and justice should certainly still matter, and we should all certainly stand together for it.
